March 27th Time Travel Series: What Happened to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus?

Through our journey of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, we have seen multiple ones that didn’t have a lot of sticking power. Either from natural disasters, politics, religious conflicts or simply: time. Mausoleum of Halicarnassus stretched through time more than many – But what led to it’s construction and eventual, destruction? Where did the word Mausoleum come from? And finally, why does the British Museum have most of it?
